UUA Advocacy and Witness

Dear Friends of Justice,

What historic times we are potentially in. While the Senate has already been wrestling with health care reform and whether or not we will have a public option, today Senators Boxer and Kerry release their version of the climate change bill. In the meantime a House committee has set a hearing on legislation that would protect the Red Rock Wilderness, one of our Actions of Immediate Witness this past General Assembly. A huge March for BGLT Equality is coming to DC in early October. And we continue our weekly Standing on the Side of Love webcast calls (Fridays at 1 pm EDT) to help UUs more effectively witness on the side of love during times that sorely need it. This week's call is with Revs. Meg Riley & Abhi Janamanchi. Please see below for more details.

ACT NOW on America's Red Rock Wilderness Act
-
At the 2009 UUA General Assembly, delegates voted to Support America's Red Rock Wilderness Act as an Action of Immediate Witness. Well, now it's time for action!
For the first time in the 20-year history of this bill, a hearing has been scheduled for America's Red Rock Wilderness Act in the House Natural Resources Committee, Public Lands Subcommittee, for Oct. 1, 2009. Right now a simple act of witness could do wonders to support this bill. Please contact your local congressional representative and tell them you support America's Red Rock Wilderness Act and to let him/her know that you are pleased to know that it is getting a hearing. Encourage members of your congregation to do the same! For more ideas and assistance in taking action, or to see if your congressional representative has signed on, visit the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance.
